My All Time Favourite Highlighter
Are you a sucker for a good highlighter that makes your skin look like it glows from within? Yes? Well then you better keep reading...
I never really cared for using highlighter in my makeup routine up until a few years ago. I guess this was because I had tried out some products which weren't great quality and didn't give me the desired effect of glowy skin. This in turn put me off trying anymore and I just went without. Then, one year I received a highlighter powder as a present and after giving it a go, I loved it! Fast forward a few years and it's still my absolute favourite now.
So, the product in question is the Illamasqua Beyond Powder Highlighter in the shade 'OMG'.
Below is an image of the box that the product comes in. I own a few different cosmetics by Illamasqua and I really like their packaging as it's all very minimal but looks smart and sleek.
This is what the highlighter looks like (see below image). It's a large square pan of product with a mirror included on the opposite side. You do actually get a lot of product so these highlighters tend to last me a very long time which is just one of the things I love about it. I guess there is a slight down side to this though too, as if you're like me and love to top up your makeup on a night out, unfortunately, this isn't very handy packaging to be able to pop into a cute little handbag to top up your glow on the go! This is a very minor thing though as I'd rather have more product included than it be small enough to take out with me in a handbag.
As you can see from the photo, this shade which is called 'OMG' is a stunning, lustrous pearl colour. This is definitely the type of highlight that suits my skin tone the best.
To apply this highlighter I use a small fluffy brush. Small enough to ensure I don't use too much product at once and that I can effectively build it up on areas where I want more glow. I am currently using a Peaches and Cream PC17 brush (I will include a link for this at the bottom of the post for anyone interested).
Now you do have to slightly break through the top layer a little bit when first using this highlighter to really get a good colour pay off, however, this doesn't bother me as there is so much product included and this is also the case for a few other bits of makeup I own.
The thing I like most about this highlighter is that it isn't very glittery. I've come across quite a few highlight powders in the past that make your face look like a disco ball with how much glitter they have in. Don't get me wrong, if that's the look you want to go for then that's great but it's just not for me. I love how this Illasmasqua Beyond Powder has just the right amount of shimmer in. You can create a very subtle glow with just a light layer but it's also easily buildable if you want a bolder and brighter look.
Ok, so now for the swatch of this gorgeous product! I have chose to show you this in a video instead of a photo just so you can really get a feel for how it reflects the light at different angles.
For the video I swatched a couple of layers of the highlighter but as I previously mentioned you can create a softer look with just one light layer of it or if you're wanting a more blinding effect then you can easily build it up.
Since I first used this highlighter I have tried a few other ones from brands such as Urban Decay and E.l.f but nothing comes close to the quality and effect of this Illamasqua one which is why it's my favourite. If I ever do find another that rivals this, I'll be sure to let you know!
This highlight powder retails for £34 making it the most expensive makeup product that I buy. I wouldn't usually like to spend this much on just one product but due to how much powder you get included this means I don't have to buy it very often. Also, I have recently noticed that Illamasqua sometimes do discount on this product on their website, so if you're lucky you can score a bargain on it!
If you like the look of this highlighter, I have included a couple of links for you below of websites where you can find it. The bottom link is also for the Peaches and Cream brush that I mentioned in this post which I use to apply this product with.
What's your favourite highlighter product? Would you give this Illamasqua one a try? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below!
As always, thanks for reading!
